Biamp audio and DSP for conference rooms and meeting spaces

Remote participants should hear everyone in the room clearly and never hear themselves. That is a design and tuning problem as much as a hardware one.

Quick answer

AV8 Technologies designs, configures and tunes Biamp audio systems for San Francisco and Bay Area offices, from Devio conferencing DSP in small and medium rooms to Tesira DSP in larger rooms and multi-room buildings. We tune each room after installation and test it with real calls.

Why conference room audio needs DSP

A digital signal processor sits between the microphones, the speakers and the conferencing system. It cancels echo so remote participants do not hear themselves, reduces steady background noise, balances levels between talkers and shapes the speaker output for the room. Without it, larger rooms tend to sound distant, echoey or inconsistent from seat to seat.

When a video bar is enough, and when it is not

For huddle rooms and many small and medium rooms, the microphones and speakers in an all-in-one Logitech or Neat bar are the right answer, perhaps with an expansion microphone for a longer table. We step up to a Biamp design when the room has:

  • A large or oddly shaped table, or a divisible space
  • Ceiling microphones that need echo cancellation and automatic mixing
  • Program audio and speech reinforcement alongside conferencing
  • Several rooms or zones that should share one audio system

Tesira and Devio

Devio is Biamp's platform built around conferencing rooms. It suits small and medium spaces where the goal is clear, dependable meeting audio with straightforward setup. Tesira is Biamp's larger networked DSP platform, used where a project needs more channels, more flexibility or several rooms working together. We configure both, including the TesiraFORTÉ X family and Devio SCX, and handle the firmware and software side as well as the physical install.

Networked audio: Dante and AES67

We are Audinate Dante Certified and work routinely with Dante and AES67 audio networking. That includes passing audio between Biamp DSPs and Crestron NVX endpoints, so microphones, speakers and video distribution can share one network. Our planning guide covers what to settle before you install.

How we tune a room

  1. Gain structure: set levels so every stage of the signal chain has headroom and a healthy signal-to-noise ratio.
  2. Echo cancellation: configure and verify the echo reference with the conferencing system.
  3. Speaker EQ and coverage: shape the output for the room and check intelligibility seat by seat.
  4. Noise handling: account for HVAC and other steady noise.
  5. Live test: a real call with a remote participant, from every seat that matters.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a DSP for a Zoom Room?

Not for most small and medium rooms, where an all-in-one video bar handles audio well. A DSP becomes worthwhile in larger rooms, rooms with ceiling microphones, divisible spaces, or any room that mixes conferencing with other audio.

What is the difference between Biamp Tesira and Devio?

Devio is designed around conferencing rooms and favors simple, dependable deployment. Tesira is a broader networked DSP platform for larger or multi-room projects. We recommend based on the size and complexity of your space.

Can you tune or fix an existing Biamp system?

Often, yes. We begin by checking the existing configuration, firmware and room acoustics, then recommend adjustments or upgrades.

Does Biamp audio work with Zoom Rooms and Crestron control?

Yes. We routinely combine Biamp DSP with Zoom Rooms and Crestron control in larger rooms, with one team handling all three.
